Skopje International Airport (SKP)

Everything you need to know before landing at Skopje Airport — arrival hall, transport into the city, ATMs, SIM cards, and the questions every first-time visitor asks.

About Skopje Airport

Skopje International Airport (IATA: SKP, ICAO: LWSK) is the main international gateway to Macedonia, located in the village of Petrovec, about 25 km east of Skopje city centre. The airport has one passenger terminal handling all domestic and international flights from carriers including Wizz Air, Pegasus, Turkish Airlines, Lufthansa, Austrian, Air Serbia and others.

Arrival hall & what to expect

The arrivals area is compact and easy to navigate. After landing, you will pass through passport control, collect your baggage, and enter the public arrivals hall through customs. ATMs, currency exchange counters, a tourist information desk, car-rental desks and a small café are all within a one-minute walk.

If you have pre-booked a transfer with us, your driver will be standing here holding a sign with your name. No need to call or wait for an app.

Getting from Skopje Airport to the city

You have three realistic options:

  1. Pre-booked private transfer — fixed price, named driver, door-to-door. €28 from the Airport to Skopje city, €25 the other way. The most reliable choice, especially at night or with luggage.
  2. Local taxi at the rank outside arrivals — usually fine, but prices are not always metered for airport runs.
  3. Vardar Express shuttle bus — runs roughly every 1–2 hours between the airport and Skopje city centre. Cheapest option (around €4) but limited frequency, no door-to-door service.

There is no Uber or Bolt in Macedonia. A new local platform, isplit.mk, will introduce ridesharing and airport-sharing in June 2026. Until then, pre-booking is the modern alternative to hailing a taxi at the rank.

Money & ATMs

The official currency is the Macedonian denar (MKD), but EUR is widely accepted by taxi drivers and many hotels. ATMs in the arrivals hall dispense MKD; some also dispense EUR. Avoid the airport exchange counters if you can — rates are noticeably worse than ATMs.

SIM cards & data

EU roaming does not apply in Macedonia. A1 Macedonia and Telekom (formerly T-Mobile) sell prepaid SIM cards at small kiosks in the airport. A typical 10 GB / 30-day tourist SIM costs around €10. eSIM options from providers like Airalo are a convenient alternative if your phone supports it.
